Croatia is officially known as the Republic of Croatia. For most of the period from 1918 to 1991, Croatia was part of what came to be called Yugoslavia. It is bordered by Serbia to the northeast, by Hungary and Slovenia in the north, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the east and by Montenegro in the southeast. To the west is the Adriatic Sea. The capital of Croatia is Zagreb.
